Confessing My Worst DM Secrets Part I
Being sent to investigate your own death
2025-08-04
I ended the session on a cliffhanger:
“You receive a letter. It is a summons to a remote mountain town to identify the body of (Insert PC Name Here).”
The players were gobsmacked and thunderstruck.
What followed was half a dozen sessions of trekking to the town, investigating the body, exploring the surrounding area, talking to villagers, and delving to the bottom of the dungeon. They uncovered magic fungal clones, side quests, red herrings, a dying race, a looming threat, and other conniving plots that had long term implications for the setting and the characters.
Confession: I had no preconceived notion of how any of this would play out. I wanted to see what they would do. And it was all because I saw the following meme and thought it was funny.
